The Journal | NABO visits - The home of Danish photographer, Mia Mortensen
Today I want to introduce you to the beautiful home of the talented photographer Mia Mortensen, who lives in Denmark with her husbond and their baby boy. I first met Mia when her and stylist Sanne Kragelund came to shoot a couple of photos in our home, and when Mia went on maternity leave with her son she started the instagram account @still_sunday, an account all about her home renovation.
I instantly fell in love with her space and Mia's approach to decorating. With a mix of DIYs, vintage pieces and contemporary furniture Mia is creating a warm and welcoming family home, where colours are welcome and everything works beautifully together.
I hope you will enjoy this home tour. Find out all about Mia's home in the interview below.
Who lives here:
Mia (31), Martin (33), Aston (10m)
Their two cats Fuji and Elton
What do you like most about your home?
The architecture, the different levels in the house and the light; we have the most beautiful golden hour.
How would you describe your interior style?
Mid-century modern combined with clean nordic lines
What's your favourite piece of furniture?
I really love our dining table. It's made of oak by professional wood-makers and I do think it is the heart and centre of the house.
Can you tell us a bit about the thoughts you had while renovating your home?
We didn't have much time from we took over the house till my due date, 3 months to be exact, but we decided to see if we could make as much as possible happen before our son entered our life. We started out renovating the bathroom, the kitchen and the floors.
We made it a priority to respect the house' original features and paid a lot of attention to the architecture. We wanted the concrete floor in the kitchen and dining room to be both modern and functional as well as work as a contract to the kitchen and dining table in oak. We wanted the bathroom to have a quite clean look, but we played a bit with surfaces and form; the metro tiles and hexagon marble tiles make a contrat to the white.
How do you choose colours in your home and what do you think is important to think about when decorating with colours?
We use colours to set the mood in each room. And most often we only paint one wall than the entire room. Having a light space means so much to us and there's no doubt that white is the colour that most effectually reflects the light. The dining room is where many things happen, often at once, so it's natural for us to use a stronger colour in here, whereas the colour in the living room is calm and gentle, as this is where we relax in the evening.
Who's your favourite designer
I like new brands like &tradition and Flos. If I have to name older designers it has to be Verner Panton and Wegner.
Thanks so much for inviting us all inside your home, Mia. Can't wait to follow your next project.
